General Description
All 13 units which consists of the Body Electrical Control System are linked by CAN*¹ line.
They are IPM(Inter Panel Module), FAM(Front Area Module), PDM(Power Distribution Module), DDM(Drive Door Module), ADM(Assist Door Module), ECW(Electronic Control Wiper), CLU(Cluster), MFSW(Multi Function Switch), PSM(Power Seat Module), SCM(Steering Control Module), PTM(Power Trunk Lid Module), FBWS(Front Back Warning System), DATC(Dual Auto Temperature Control Module).
The steering wheel's Lock/Unlock state from ESCL(Electronic Steering Column Lock) and the related data to starting from EMS are sent to IPM by the serial communication line.
*¹ CAN (Controller Area Network) : CAN is serial bus communication type which links not only communication system but also control units each other.
*² LIN (Local Interconnect Network) : LIN is serial communication type which is used in electrical control system. (This is less expensive.)
DTC Description
This code is outputted when ESCL cannot lock or unlock the steering wheel normally.
(When ESCL Lock/Unlock switch state from PDM to IPM is different from the switch state from ESCL to IPM.)
DTC Detecting Condition
Item | Detecting Condition | Possible Cause |
DTC Strategy | IPM monitors the internal error of ESCL and Lock/Unlock state by communicating with ESCL. (ESCL gets power from PDM for to communicate between IPM and ESCL.)
ESCL Lock/Unlock state check by CAN signal from PDM
| IPM power ON 1. ESCL internal error check : Check ESCL Failure on GDS among IPM Input/Output monitoring items. (When ON, It's ESCL internal error.) 2. Check ESCL Battery/Ground line open : Check ESCL Open state check item among PDM's items on GDS. 3. Check ESCL Battery/Ground line short to battery or ground : Check DTC among PDM's DTC list (ESCL BAT SCB, ESCL BAT SCG, ESCL Gnd SCB) 4. Check ESCL Comm. Line short to battery or ground or open : Check ESCL Data Line state among IPM items on GDS. 5. Check O_ESCL Enable Line's error among IPM's output lines : Check ESCL Enable=ON/OFF item among Input/Output monitoring items on GDS.(When push the button, the Data turns to ON momently.) 6. Check L_ESCL_Unlock among PDM's input lines : Check ESCL Unlock item among PDM's Input/Output items on GDS. 7. Check PDM's VbatLoad line : Check Vbat_Load among PDM's Input/Output items on GDS. 8. Check PDM Power terminal's Relay short to battery : ACC, IGN1, IGN2, Starter SCG among PDM's Input/Output items on GDS 9. When push SSB during PDM actuation test(ACC, IGN1, IGN2, Starter Rly). 10. Check IPM/PDM/ESCL learning state (IPM : Learnt, PDM : Learnt, ESCL : Normal)

Enable Conditions | Common : IPM power ON
In case of ESCL error 1. ESCL internal error 2. ESCL Power/Ground Line short to Power/Ground or Open 3. ESCL Communication Line short to Power/Ground or Open 4. O_ESCL Enable Line from IPM Open 5. ESCL_Unlock Line to IPM Open or Short
In case of no ESCL error 1. No power to PDM (VBatLoad) 2. PDM Power Relay(ACC, IGN1, IGN2, Starter Rly) short to battery 3. During PDM actuation test(ACC, IGN1, IGN2, Starter Rly) 4. Before finishing IPM/PDM/ESCL learning (All same pin code)

Threshold Value | PDM's ESCL Unlock/Lock Decision Voltage Level : Transmit the information by CAN after deciding ON(Above 7V)/OFF(Below 2V) at ESCL Unlock Input Pin
IPM decides Unlock/Lock by communication with ESCL
Decide by comparing the results of above 2 items

Diagnostic Time | When the ESCL's states are different between PDM and IPM while ESCL is working(Unlock?Lock).

DTC Erasing Time | 10 sec after the DTC is outputted. (Erasing DTC automatically)
