General Description

ESCL(Electronic Steering Column Lock) is a system to control the lock or unlock of the Steering Column.It is installed on steering column and SMK unit is located inside of instrument panel, left knee of driver side. It consists of ESCL control Module, SMK unit, SSB(engine Start Stop Button)

It is operating as follows.

1. Pushing SSB ? 2. Switch 1 signal goes to SMK, Switch 2 signal goes to SMK unit ? 3.SMK supplies power supply to ESCL ? 4.SMK unit sends ENABLE signal and operation signal to ESCL ? 5.ESCL controls bolt to lock or unlock ESCL ? 6.SMK detects ESCL Unlock signal.



DTC Description

SMK unit receives ESCL lock or unlock status signal from ESCL.

The purpose of this DTC is to find out the main reason of malfunction of ESCL when lock/unlock is attempted.

The DTC is set if SMK unit detects malfunction of ESCL and wiring or fuse problem when ESCL lock/unlock attempt.

1. ESCL internal malfunction

2. Open or short to battery/ground in harness

3. Open or short to battery/ground in communication line

4. Open at ESCL enable line in SMK Unit harness

5. Open or short at ESCL Unlock line in SMK Unit harness

- DTC recorded if below conditions are met

6. No power supply to SMK Unit

7. Short to battery in power relay of SMK Unit

8. SMK unit actuation test

9. Adaptation completion using different PIN codes between SMK Unit and ESCL

No condition match as below ;

- ESCL lock/unlock reference voltage level in SMK unit

- ESCL lock/unlock status data receiving from communication in SMK unit

Diagnostic Time

5 times consecutive ESCL error No condition match as below ;

Failsafe

Immediately after ESCL motor activates normally
